LEXINGTON, Ky. - Basketball is a game of runs.  The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team survived a big run by Transylvania University and used a late run of their own to defeat the Pioneers by a final score of 60-51 on Saturday afternoon in the Clive M. Beck Center. 

Transylvania opened up play Saturday afternoon by nailing a three-pointer but Rose-Hulman responded with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to take a seven point lead 10-3 with 4:54 left to play in the opening period.  The Pioneers of Transylvania closed the gap over the next four minutes and used an 11-4 run to even the score at 14 as the 1st Qtr. concluded.  

Transylvania carried their run over into the 2nd Qtr and jumped out to a 22-16 lead.  At the 4:41 mark, a pair of Abbie Marshall free throws cut Transy's lead to just one, 22-21, but the Pioneers nailed back-to-back 3's to increase their advantage to 28-21.  With 2:52 remaining in the half, Rachel Cox hit a jumper for Transylvania that increased their lead to nine, 30-21.  The nine point deficit was the biggest of the day that Rose-Hulman faced.  RHIT managed to score a few layups before halftime and trailed 30-25 at the intermission.  

After trailing for much of the 3rd Qtr. Rose-Hulman found their stride offensively and clawed back into the game.  The Fightin' Engineers used a 10-0 run over nearly four minutes to take a 37-35 lead midway through the period.  In the final minute both teams traded three-point baskets and Transylvania led by one 42-41.  

The Fightin' Engineers dominated the 4th Qtr. outscoring the Pioneers by 10, 19-9.  RHIT scored the first nine points of the period and jumped out to a 50-42 lead midway through the last stanza. Transy crawled back to within a basket at 50-47 but Taylor Graham nailed a three-pointer that pushed RHIT's advantage back up to 53-47.  With 1:19 left to play in the game Taylor Jackson made a three-pointer from the corner to bring Transy back within a basket at 53-51, but Alyzia Dilworth drove coast-to-coast and got fouled as her layup dropped through the net.  She made her free throw to finish the three-point play and RHIT went back up 56-51.  Rose-Hulman's defense stood firm in the final minute.

Leading the way for Rose-Hulman was Abby Bromenschenkel with 16 points on 7-13 shooting. The sophomore also grabbed four rebounds and picked up three steals.  Ally Bromenschenkel scored 14 points and had five rebounds.  Taylor Graham provided 10 points and five boards in 27 minutes off of the bench.  The Fightin' Engineers out-rebounded the Pioneers by 11, 39-28.

The 60-51 win improved Rose-Hulman's record to 9-2 on the season.  The Fightin' Engineers remained undefeated in HCAC play and lead the league with a perfect 4-0 record.  Transylvania dropped to 5-3 (2-2 HCAC) on the season.  

The women will have some time off for Holiday Break but will return to the hardwood on January 3 at Hanover College.
