BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team is undefeated at home after a 61-55 win over Piedmont College Friday night in Bill Battle Coliseum.

BSC was by Kaitlin Hogan (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS).  She finished with a team-high 14 points going 5-for-7 from the floor, 4-for-5 from three-point range.

Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) and Jameice Holmes (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) also finished in double-figures.  Olsen earned 12 points, and Holmes dropped 11, respectively.  Both grabbed a game-high nine rebounds on the night along with Elizabeth Philpot (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS).

The first half was tied twice with five lead changes. BSC had led by as many as seven in the second quarter, but the Lions fought back to go ahead 27-25 at the break.

They opened the second half on a run to regain the lead, but the contest continued to be a back-and-forth battle.  After BSC went on another run in the fourth, Piedmont started clawing back.  The Panthers led by just three with one minute to play after a big three from Jatasia Bailey.

They would get possession after a foul on a missed jumper.

Holmes sunk both free throws and extended the lead to five with 53 seconds to play.  Tight defense from Panthers drained the game and shot clock away from Piedmont, forcing a timeout with seven seconds to shoot.  The pressure continued, and the Lions got a shot clock violation.

BSC took over with 22 seconds remaining, but they couldn't get the ball inbounds cleanly, giving Piedmont another chance.  Olsen was called for her fourth foul with 13.5 on the clock sending Bailey to the line.  She missed them both and BSC called timeout on Olsen's rebound.

Holmes was fouled on the inbound and sent to the free throw line.  She made the first and missed the second.  Piedmont pushed it down court and was able to get a shot off.  It didn't fall and BSC earned the win, snapping a two-game skid.

Piedmont moved to 4-3 overall with the loss.  BSC is now 2-5.

The Panthers hit the road again, taking on Covenant College tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 10. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
