Washington & Jefferson College used a strong fourth quarter to erase a Bearcat lead and defeat Saint Vincent by a score of 64-60 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup.

The opening minutes did not disappoint onlookers as two unbeaten teams collided in a PAC conference matinee. The game was evenly matched throughout the first quarter as both sides swapped scoreless possessions before W&J hit the first jumper of the game. Almost as if on cue, Bearcats' leading scorer Jasmine Weems answered with a three-point shot which was followed by a long shot behind the arc by Hannah Carroll.

It seemed as though SVC was going to start to pull away as they ran out to a 9-2 early lead, forcing the Presidents to take an timeout. It was the visiting team's turn to go on a 7-0 run and closing the gap on the Bearcats lead; however, it wasn't enough as they headed into the second quarter up 19-16.

The Presidents scored the opening basket of the second quarter and climbed to their first lead of the game after another 7-0 run to make it 25-22 with 4:02 left in the half. Yet, the Bearcats would not be outdone as Carroll poured in four of her first half 7 points to maintain the Bearcat lead 31-27 going into the break.

The second half of the contest was much like the first with both teams matching buckets for most of the third quarter with the edge going to the Bearcats, who had a 46-44 lead headed into the final quarter of play.

The major turning point of the game came after a bucket from Babette Sanmartin at the 9:06 mark in the fourth. A scoring drought from the field plagued the Bearcats and allowed the Presidents recapture their second lead of the game after an 8-0 run with just over 5:00 remaining.

For more than eight minutes of the quarter, the Bearcats could not hit a bucket from the field until Weems  hit an outside shot with just 30 seconds left, cutting the Presidents lead to 62-56. The deficit was too much for SVC to overcome as they suffered their first conference loss on the season.

The Bearcats had a few big performances led by Sanmartin who had a huge second half scoring 11 of her game high 20 points, along with 8 rebounds. Mara Benvenuti captured her second consecutive double-double with 11 points and a game high 12 boards. Weems had a solid game running point, scoring 15 while adding 8 rebounds and a team high 5 assists.

The Presidents' Danielle Parker was the X-factor for the visiting team as she scored 12 of her team high 19 points in the second half. Other impact performers for W&J included Amirah Moore with 13 points and 7 rebounds, Taylor Cortazzo with 9 points followed by Rachel Bellhy who netted 8 along with 8 boards.

With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the PAC as they prepare for a road game at Juniata on Dec. 7 at 7pm. After their road victory, the Presidents improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.
