Providence, R.I.--Senior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rhode Island College women's basketball team to a 73-62 victory over Plymouth State in a Little East Conference contest played at The Murray Center on Saturday evening. Moore needs 42 points to become the 14^th player in school history to reach the 1,000-career point plateau.

RIC (4-4, 1-0 LEC) freshman forward Victoria Demers (Sutton, MA) also a notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Freshman guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River) narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) was also in double-figures with 16 points.

Senior forward Kayla Wyland (Melrose, MA) paced Plymouth State (1-4, 0-1 LEC) with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard DeAsia "Ace" Lawrence (Middletown, CT) chipped in with 19 points and five boards.

RIC led from the opening tip and throughout the first quarter, taking its largest lead when a three-pointer by Gauvin made the score 7-4 at the end of the quarter. Gauvin and Rubera each had five points in the first stanza for the Anchorwomen.

The Anchorwomen pushed their lead to five points early in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Demers put the team up by five, 16-11, with 7:29 left in the first half. Plymouth State then used a 5-0 run, capped by a layup by Lawrence, to knot the game at 16-16 with 6:05 remaining on the clock. The two teams then traded baskets for the rest of the half and headed into the locker room in a 27-27 deadlock. RIC held a 29-19 advantage on the glass over the first 20 minutes.

RIC used a 16-5 run to open the second half, capped by a three-pointer by Moore, to take its largest lead of the contest, 43-32, with 5:14 left in the third quarter. The visiting Panthers chipped away at the lead and closed the gap to just one, 51-50, on a three-pointer by Lawrence with :35 on the clock.

The Anchormen opened the fourth quarter on a 14-3 run, capped by a three-pointer by from Moore, to give the hosts their largest advantage of the game, 65-53, with 7:52 left in the contest. Plymouth cut the lead down to just three points when a jumper by Wyland with 4:40 remaining in regulation made the score 65-62. That would be as close as the Panthers would get, however RIC pulled away down the stretch.

RIC shot 35.8 percent (24-for-67) from the field, 42.9 percent (12-for-28) from behind the three-point stripe and 54.2 percent (13-for-24) from the free throw line. Plymouth State shot 33.3 percent (23-for-69) from the field, 24.0 percent (6-for-25) from the three-point line and 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the free throw line.  

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Amherst on Monday, Dec. 5 (5 p.m.).
