CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Junior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) finished one rebound short of the program record, but it wasn't enough to lift Gettysburg College past Washington College as the Shorewomen led wire-to-wire in a 70-61 victory in Centennial Conference action inside the Cain Athletic Center on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (3-2, 2-1 CC) suffered its first conference setback after shooting a season-low 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the floor. Gibbons recorded her third consecutive double-double with 13 points and a career-high 22 rebounds. Her rebounding total was one shy of the school record shared by Donna Bourke '92 and Kathy Eberle '84 and marked the best total by a Bullet since Kelly Geise '95 grabbed 22 against Albright College on Feb. 22, 1992.
 
Sophomore Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) notched her fifth-straight 20-point effort with an even 20, thanks in part to a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the free throw line. Dorshimer is just one shy of the program record for consecutive 20-point performances set by Sue Marshall '85 in 1984-85. Freshman Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) added 12 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
 
Washington (2-4, 1-2 CC) received a 20-point night from Ali Grundy. Cassidy Quattro turned in 16 points, while Caitlyn Clark dished out 10 assists and grabbed nine boards.
 
The Bullets tied the game 6-6 on a lay-up by Dorshimer with less than four minutes remaining in the first quarter, but the Shorewomen raced away with an 11-point run and led 20-10 at the end of the frame.
 
Washington extended the advantage by 18 (28-10) with an 8-0 surge to start the second quarter. The hosts led 37-25 at halftime.
 
Gettysburg cut the deficit down the single-digits with a lay-up by Gibbons and a pair of free throws by Dorshimer to start the third period, but Washington came right back with a pair of lay-ups by Clark to regain the 12-point advantage.
 
The Bullets stayed within striking distance at the end of the quarter, slicing the deficit down to six at one point and ending the frame down 48-41 following a pair of free throws by Dorshimer.
 
Two more freebies by the sophomore guard put the deficit at just five early in the fourth quarter. That was as close as Gettysburg would get as Washington answered each time the Bullets knocked on the door. After Gibbons nailed a jumper to put the score at 59-54 midway through the final period, Taylor Samuels came right back with a lay-up to boost the lead back to seven. The deficit would not drop below that the rest of the way.
 
Washington shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the field and dished out 25 assists. Gettysburg held a 45-40 advantage on the boards, but the Shorewomen held a 21-8 lead in points off the bench.
 
Gettysburg heads up Route 34 to face Dickinson College this Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m.
