Hawks defeat Bison, 81-57

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored a game-high 22 points in Nichols College's 81-57 loss to Roger Williams University Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action at the Nichols Athletic Center.
 
Junior Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) netted nine points for the Bison while freshman Anna McDaniel (Taunton, Mass.) notched six points, six rebounds, and two blocks. Senior Brittany Donovan (Newport, R.I.) also had six points to go with six boards, two blocks, and one steal.
 
Junior Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) led the Hawks with 18 points (8-of-13 FG) while Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.) each scored 11 points. The Hawks shot 49 percent from the field and held a 41-38 edge on the glass. They also scored 42 points in the paint and turned 22 Bison turnovers into 22 points.
 
The Hawks scored 19 of the game's first 23 points and led 19-4 after one. Walther led a balanced scoring attack with five points while junior Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) netted four. The Bison made two of their first 11 field goal attempts.
 
In the second, Nichols outscored the Hawks 15-13 to cut their deficit to 32-19 at halftime. Daniels scored 11 of her 13 first-half points in the second and McDaniel entered the half with six points and five boards in 13 minutes of action.
 
The Bison climbed to within eight points in the third following a layup by junior Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) before the Hawks closed the period on a 21-8 run to open up a 56-35 lead. Nichols did not get closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
 
Nichols shot 30 percent (17-of-56 FG).

Tonight's contest marks the 42nd all-time meeting between Nichols College and Roger Williams University. The Hawks have won the last 12 meetings and now lead the series, 25-17.
