WAYNE, N.J. – Four different Pioneers reached double figures in scoring as William Paterson (4-2, 2-0 NJAC) scored an 88-54 women's basketball victory against visiting New Jersey City (3-3, 0-2 NJAC) Nov. 30.
The Pioneers surged out to leads of 12-0 (3:55) and 29-7 (0:17) during the first quarter behind 57.1 (12-21) percent shooting while limiting NJCU to a 2-for-15 (.133) effort. The Gothic Knights recovered to shoot .500 (7-14) during the second period, pulling to within 11 at 33-22 with 2:02 left, before WP scored five of the last eight points of the half to carry a 38-25 advantage into the locker room.
William Paterson transformed a 50-39 margin with 3:42 to play in the third quarter into a 75-45 edge at the 6:25 mark of the fourth, putting together a 25-6 run that spanned 7:07. The Pioneers shot 17-for-27 (.630) from the floor during the game's final 20 minutes and owned an overall scoring advantage of 46-22 in the paint and 29-13 off turnovers.
Sophomore guard Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) led four Pioneers in double digits with 16 points, adding five rebounds and a team-best five assists. Freshman guard Gabby Harris (South River, N.J./South River) posted 14 tallies, junior forward Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) contributed 10 points and seven boards, and freshman guard Kristina Ulrich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) chipped in 10 points from off the bench. Senior forward Janea Clark (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) added eight tallies to her game-best 11 rebounds.
Junior guard Aaliyah Saud scored 15 points to lead NJCU, while freshman forward/center Atonie Johnson collected seven tallies and eight rebounds.
William Paterson will compete at Rowan Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1:00 p.m.
