UMHB women fall to Ozarks in ASC opener

Clarksville, Arkansas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome Ozarks red-hot second-half shooting as the Cru dropped a 77-66 decision to the Eagles Tuesday night in Arkansas. The loss drops UMHB to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. Ozarks improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in ASC play with the win.

The Cru scored the game's first four points and led 18-17 after a first quarter that featured two ties and four lead changes. Both teams would lead by as many as five points in the second period with UMHB taking a 38-34 halftime lead. The Eagles started to heat up in the second half and stretched the lead to as many as 13 points in the third quarter. The Cru whittled the lead down to four points before Ozarks pulled away again in the final period.

Kendra Wynn scored UMHB's first seven points and finished with 17 for the game. Alicia Blackwell and Antoinette Iroko added nine points apiece. Alexandria Howze grabbed a team-best six rebounds. The Cru shot 40 percent from the field for the game, but hit just 10-33 in the second half. UMHB was also out rebounded 38-34 in the loss.

Hailey Ostrander had a game-high 20 points to lead the Eagles as she hit 3-5 from three-point range. Bryanna Moltz hit 4-6 from long-range and finished with 16 points. Diamond Goodwyn scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Ozarks. The Eagles hit 10-19 from the floor in the second half and shot 50 percent for the game. Ozarks also went 9-17 from beyond the arc as a team.

The Cru will now return home to return to action. UMHB will host Belhaven University on Saturday in a 5:30 PM start at the Mayborn Campus Center, The start time for that game has been moved back to help avoid a conflict with the Cru's home NCAA Quarterfinal football game.
