Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College women's basketball team dropped a 64-50 decision to intra-state rival Roger Williams in a non-conference contest played at The Murray Center on Sunday afternoon.

Rhode Island College (2-3) was led by senior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists, while freshman forward Victoria Demers (Sutton, MA) added eight points and four boards.

Senior forward Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, MA) paced Roger Williams (1-2) with a game-high 19 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists, while junior guard Anna Walther (Northampton, MA) contributed 17 points, five assists and three boards. Junior forward Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, MA) tallied 12 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Katie Lowerre (Sharon, MA) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and eight boards in the victory.

The visiting Hawks grabbed control of the game early and jumped out to the 9-0 lead after a layup by Nicholas with 8:20 left in the first quarter. RWU led by 16 points when a layup by Quilty made the score 19-3 and the Hawks held a 19-6 lead after the first quarter. RWU registered a 16-5 advantage on the glass and held RIC to just 7.1 percent (1-for-14) shooting from the field.

RWU continued to build on its lead throughout the second quarter and held their largest advantage of the game when a layup by Quilty with :14 seconds remaining on the clock made the score 35-14 at halftime. The Hawks outrebounded RIC by a 27-15 margin in the first half and shot 51.6 percent (16-for-31), while holding the Anchorwomen to just 13.3 percent (4-for-30) from the field for the opening 20 minutes.

Rhode Island College chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and closed the gap to 14 points 42-28 on a jumper by Demers with time running out in the period. RIC outscored Roger Williams by a 14-7 margin in the quarter, led by six points from Demers, in the stanza. RIC held RWU to just 8.3 percent (1-for-12) from the field in the third quarter.

The Anchorwomen continued to trim the Roger Williams advantage and pulled to within nine, 51-42, on a traditional three-point play from freshman guard Fatima McDonald (Attleboro, MA) with 3:28 left in the contest. That would be as close as RIC would get, however, as Roger Williams held on for the 14-point, 64-50, victory.

RIC shot 26.2 percent (16-for-61) from the field, including 35.0 percent (7-for-20) from behind the three-point stripe and 64.7 percent (11-for-17) from the free throw line, while Roger Williams shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the field, 25.0 percent (2-for-8) from the three-point line and 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from the free throw line. RWU held a 50-34 advantage in rebounds for the contest.  

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Lyndon State on Tuesday, Nov. 29 (6 p.m.).
