LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore guard Emma Dorshimer and junior forward Emily Gibbons each posted a double-double to lead the Gettysburg College women's basketball team to a 74-55 victory at Franklin & Marshall College in its Centennial Conference (CC) opener Tuesday evening at the Mayser Center.
 
The Bullets (2-1, 1-0 CC) trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter before pulling away in the middle two periods, when they outscored the Diplomats 43-24. Gettysburg was never threatened in the final quarter, when it led by as much 22 at one point.
 
Dorshimer registered 22 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for her second double-double in three games this season. Gibbons, the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week, notched her sixth career double-dip, collecting 15 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Freshman guard Kiera Cesareo tossed in 12 points and six boards for the Bullets, who out-rebounded Franklin & Marshall 53-38.
 
Sarah Haddon led F&M (0-3, 0-1 CC) with 18 points and eight rebounds while Erica Brown and Sarah Pisani added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Diplomats.
 
Franklin & Marshall led for nearly the entire first quarter after outscoring the Bullets 7-2 to start the game. The hosts' lead reached as much nine (17-8) with 2:07 left in the opening stanza; however, that's when Dorshimer took matters into her own hands, scoring eight straight points, bookended by a pair of 3-pointers, to make it a one-point game. Rosha Parsons dropped in a lay-up just before the buzzer to give F&M its three-point advantage after 10 minutes of play.
 
The Diplomats scored the first six points of the second quarter to push their advantage back to eight with 7:28 showing. But the Bullets would dig in defensively, holding F&M to three points over the remainder of the quarter. In the meantime, Gettysburg rallied to take the lead on a pair of free throws from freshman guard Amber Bourke with 5:03 remaining in the period, capping a 9-0 Bullet run. Gettysburg ended the half with a 6-0 spurt, with junior guard Jamie Relin knocking down a pair of free throws with one tick showing to make it a 35-28 game at the break.
 
The Bullets continued their run into the second half, scoring the first four points to push their lead into double figures. The visitors' advantage swelled to 18 (53-35) with 3:11 left in the quarter, and their lead would not dip below 15 the rest of the night. Gettysburg led 59-43 heading into the final period.
 
The Orange and Blue settled any doubt in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, starting on a 6-0 run to push its lead to 22. Franklin & Marshall would only get as close as 16 the rest of the way.
