LOS ANGELES — Erin Matsumoto led four players in double figures as the Occidental women's basketball team rolled past Linfield with an impressive 67-49 win at Rush Gymnasium on Sunday.
Season Impact: The Tigers move to 2-1, winning their second game by a wide margin. Oxy opened the season with a 106-27 victory over Cal Miramar on Tuesday.
Oxy went 1-1 in their Socal Classic, losing narrowly to a good Rochester Institute of Technology team on Saturday night, 60-58.
Linfield falls to 1-2 on the year.
From the Coach: "We played hard, we played smart and we played together," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "We executed and finished on the offensive end, and our defense was solid throughout the game. I'm proud of our resilience."
Shariah Green scored 13 points, and Cheldon Alcantara and Triana Anderson each added 11 off of the bench.
The Tigers led 30-26 at halftime, increased their advantage to nine points at the end of the third quarter, and then pushed it to 17 points with a 10-2 run to start the fourth. Matsumoto scored six points during the run, including the first five of the second half.
Emily Leonard had six points and a game-high 12 rebounds for Oxy.
Green grabbed nine rebounds and Tala Ismail added eight points for the Tigers.
Dani Krier led Linfield with a game-high 17 points.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action after Thanksgiving with a two-game tournament starting on Nov. 25 against St. Olaf at Rush Gym. Oxy plays the second game on Nov. 26 at Caltech against Macalester at 1 p.m.
