SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Endicott women's basketball team was defeated, 72-60, at the hands of the Keene St. College Owls Saturday afternoon inside the Williamson Center in non-conference neutral game action in the 40th annual Skidmore College Invitational.
Endicott jumped out to a six-point lead — its largest of the game — before Keene St. went on a 7-0 run and took a 19-13 advantage heading into the second quarter and led, 35-26, at halftime.
The Gulls out-scored Owls, 24-16, in the third quarter, for Endicott's highest-scoring quarter this season, to cut the deficit to one (51-50) heading into the final quarter of play.
Endicott trailed, 53-52, with 6:49 to play, but a strong fourth quarter from junior guard Lydia Vital (Cambridge, Mass.) and the Owls shut the door on the comeback effort.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Junior forward Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) led the way with a team-high/season-high 19 points.
- Shaw earned her first double-double of the season (sixth career) as she grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and game-high three steals.
- Shaw has led the Gulls in scoring in each of the first three games this season.
- Junior guard Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) added 12 points for the second time this season.
- Endicott out-rebounded the Owls, 39-37.
- The Gulls held a six-point lead with 8:09 remaining in the first quarter for their largest lead of the game.
FOR THE FOES
- The Owls placed three student-athletes in double figures, as junior guard Sandi Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) scored a game-high 24 points.
- Vital and sophomore guard Emily McPadden (Tyngsborough, Mass.) added 19 and 11 points, respectively.
- Vital registered a game-high 11 points in the fourth quarter alone for the most points scored one student-athlete in a single quarter today.
- Senior forward Amanda Petrow (Methuen, Mass.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- Keene St. recorded 23 points off turnovers to Endicott's 11.
