UNE surges past Regis in middle quarters to claim Ramada Roundball Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England women's basketball team shot 62 percent from the floor in periods two and three to out-score Regis College (Mass.) by 19, on the way to a 79-59 win in the championship game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Alicia Brown paced the Nor'easters (3-0) with 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Also named to the All-Tournament Team was Sadie Nelson, who dropped in 14 points and picked up five boards.

Jocelyn Chaput and Olivia Shaw reached double figures for UNE, as well, going for 12 and 11 points, respectively; additionally, Shaw had six caroms and three steals. Kristie McNall supported with seven points, five assists, and three thefts.

The hosts connected on exactly half (24-of-48) of their two-point attempts in the match and were nearly as efficient (7-of-16) from long distance, while Regis made just 35 percent (21-of-60) overall.

Leading the Pride (1-1) was all-tournament selection Brittany Stone with 15 points and six rebounds. Mikayla Murphy tossed in 12 points. Amanda Hawkesworth also received all-tournament honors.

Both sides got off to a slow start, but the Nor'easters kicked it into gear around the 6-minute mark of the 2nd frame. In a span of 3:41, six different UNE players found the basket as an 18-4 run established a 34-21 cushion. Brown got things rolling with her first career trey from the top of the arc -- on her first such try in 62 games.

The visitors were no closer than 11 (42-31, early 3rd) the rest of the way. UNE's advantage peaked at 24 (72-48) in the 4th.

Next up for the Nor'easters will be No. 19 Bowdoin College coming to the Forum on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.).
