Bison open season with loss at Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. – Senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored a game-high 21 points for the Nichols College women's basketball team, which dropped a 77-68 decision at Johnson State Tuesday night in the non-conference season opener for both programs at Carter Gym.
 
Daniels also went for 12 boards, four assists, and two steals in 34 minutes. Junior Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) added 14 points in 40 minutes of action to go along with three steals and three rebounds. Senior Brittany Donovan (Newport, R.I.) chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
 
The Badgers had five student-athletes in double-figures in scoring, led by senior Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) with 16 points and 12 boards. Senior Nicole Menard (Milton, Vt.) recorded 15 points and four rebounds while senior Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) racked up 14 points and five rebounds.
 
Nichols led 21-13 after one as Packard and Daniels combined to score 16 points, and 39-27 at halftime. Johnson State outscored the Bison 29-16 in the third behind eight points each from Voorhis and Menard. In the fourth, DaGreenia scored eight of Johnson State's 20 points to seal the win.
 
Johnson State outrebounded the Bison 53-44 and forced 24 turnovers which led to 23 points. Nichols shot 47.4 percent from three-point land (9-of-19).
 
All-Time Series
This evening's contest marked the third all-time meeting between Nichols College and Johnson State. The win is the first in the series for the Badgers, who trail the series 2-1.
