FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin -- Four Alverno College players scored in double figures as the Inferno needed overtime to fend off host Marian University, 79-74, in the season finale for both teams.
Mackenzie Mathies made a jumper with 10 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 64-64 and the Sabres' final shot was off the mark as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes headed to overtime.
Alverno trailed for less than 30 seconds in the extra period and led by as many as eight en route to outscoring Marian 15-10 in overtime for the season sweep.
Mollie Mikyska led the Inferno with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, Mathies added 16 and senior Brooke McBain added 15 in her final contest.
Gabby Hood recorded her third consecutive double-double with 13 points and a game-best 11 rebounds, and the point guard added a game-high six assists.
After a closely contested first half, the Sabres held a 31-30 lead as the teams headed into the locker rooms. Marian went up by nine in the third quarter before an 11-1 run gave Alverno a temporary lead.
The Sabres (6-19, 4-16 NACC) led 61-57 with 3:28 remaining in regulation, but the Inferno defense limited the hosts to just three points until overtime.
Alverno (14-11, 11-9) ends the season on a four game winning streak and had a winning season for the third time in the last four years.
