ITHACA, NY – Hartwick fell in its final game of the 2015-16 season to host Ithaca College 78-61 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks were out-scored 25-12 in the third quarter after a tight first half of play.
The Hawks close out the season with a record of 7-15 and a 7-9 mark in the Empire 8 Conference. They finish fifth in the conference standings.
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) led the Hawks in her final game in a Hartwick uniform with a game-high 19 points. Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) contributed 11 points and seven rebounds and Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) added 14 points. Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) scored eight points.
Hartwick started the game on a 9-0 run and led by as many as 10 points, 14-4, with 3:09 left in the first quarter. After the Hawks led after the first ten minutes, 18-14, the Bombers tied the score at 20-all 3:24 into the second period. The half would then feature 11 lead changes and two more tie scores before IC grabbed a slim two-point, 38-36 lead heading into halftime.
A Foreman layup at 6:15 of the third quarter gave the Hawks a 44-43 advantage, but a 20-5 Bomber run the rest of the period would give the hosts a 63-48 lead.
A Stone jumper cut the deficit to 11 points, 66-55, near the midway point of the fourth quarter but it would be as close as the Hawks would get for the rest of the contest.
The Hawks would shoot 41% (24-for-58) from the floor in the game. The Bombers made 41.5% on 27-of-65 shooting.
The game was the final one for seniors Vonasek, Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) and Christina Graziadei (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany). Bellai scored two points and added four rebounds and game-highs of four assists and three steals. Razanousky scored four points and Grazadei contributed a rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Ali Ricchiuti led Ithaca with 19 points. Keri Steele scored 11 and Jordan Beers netted 10.
