Lancaster Bible Wins 13th Straight

The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team won its 13thstraight game on Thursday night as the Chargers defeated Gallaudet, 73-52 in Washington, D.C. The Chargers are now 20-3 this season and 17-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Gallaudet falls to 12-11 overall and 11-7 in conference play.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible opened the game on an 11-6 run over the first six minutes as senior Katy Stovercapped the run with one of her three 3-pointers. Lancaster Bible eventually grabbed a 17-12 lead after one quarter as junior Krissy Pennell converted a layup with four seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

The teams traded baskets for much of the second quarter and after falling behind by eight points, the Bison trimmed their deficit to four with 3:36 to play on a layup by Kelsey Hudson. Lancaster Bible responded and closed the quarter on an 8-2 run as senior Shanice Smith knocked down two free throws with one second remaining in the half.

The Chargers kept it going in the third quarter as the visitors opened a 16-point lead at 47-31 thanks to a 10-4 run over the first 3:28 of the quarter. Back-to-back layups by Pennell and Aubrey Folger gave Lancaster Bible its biggest lead to that point in the game and the Chargers continued to pour it on in the third and led by as many as 22 before earning a 58-38 advantage at the end of three quarters.

Lancaster Bible led by 20 or more the entire fourth quarter and opened up its largest lead, 27, at 69-42 thanks to Stover's final 3-pointer of the evening.

By the Numbers: Pennell led five players in double figures with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting and added 11 assists…Pennell also had a team-high four blocks…Smith had 14 points, 21 rebounds and six steals…Folger had 12 points and four boards, while Stover had 11 points…Kirsten Webster was the final player in double figures with 10 points and she also added five assists…Lancaster Bible shot 29-of-61 (47.5 percent) from the floor…Zamica Gage led the Bison with 16 points.

The Coach Says: "I thought we played well tonight and even though the game didn't mean as much to us as it did Gallaudet, we still got up for the game and the team wants to get better over these final three games and it showed," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said.

On having five players in double figures…"Being able to get scoring from different players is huge this time of year," Vanderhoff said. "It makes us a more dangerous team and it's nice to see different players contribute."

Extra! Extra!: Lancaster Bible is now 10-0 all-time against Gallaudet…The Chargers defeated the Bison, 87-60 on Jan. 30 in Lancaster…Lancaster Bible has not lost since its 77-71 overtime loss to Morrisville State on Jan. 16…The Lancaster Bible men's and women's basketball teams are a combined 43-3 overall this season and 33-1 in NEAC play.
