Tommies push win streak to 11

More news about: St. Thomas

Senior guard Katie Stone matched her career high with 21 points and No. 8-ranked St. Thomas secured a share of the MIAC women's basketball championship with Wednesday's 69-46 home win over St. Olaf.

The Tommies (21-3 overall, 15-2 MIAC), who never trailed, ran their win streak to 11 and shot 57 percent from the floor, including 10-of-23 treys. UST is within two of breaking its single-season record of 182 made 3-pointers.

St. Thomas has won either the regular-season or playoff championship in MIAC women's hoops each of the last seven seasons under Coach Ruth Sinn. They can win the solo crown Saturday at home with a victory over second-place St. Mary's in the regular-season finale.

UST has already locked up the top seed as even with a Saturday loss they would win a tie breaker over SMU.

Stone made 7-of-8 shots and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Kaitlin Langer scored 12 points, and freshman Kaylie Brazil scored all nine of her points in the second half.

UST had a 23-5 edge in bench scoring.

Lauren Gutierrez had 12 points for the Oles (12-12, 7-10).
