Adrian drops Albion in women's basketball

ALBION, Mich. – Amber McCullough ripped off six points midway through the second quarter as Adrian College opened a seven point lead and it went on to score a 72-65 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action.

Erin Nelson and Darian Payne scored on consecutive possessions as Albion pulled within a point, 19-18, two minutes into the second quarter.

After McCullough's run, Marissa Cotton and Antoinea McElroy hit 3-point baskets as Adrian extended the margin to 35-23.

Catie Neary and Emily Zgoda hit 3-point baskets and Oreyana Curry added a layup as Albion whittled the deficit to two, 35-33, in the first minute of the third quarter, but that was as close as the Britons would get.

Ashley Morris' 3-point basket and McCullough's jumper boosted the Adrian lead to double digits by the end of the third quarter.

Albion trailed by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter, but it had one more rally as Jay Bard knocked down a jumper and Olivia Savage added a 3-point basket as the Britons trailed 67-64 with 1:14 to play.

Payne led the Britons with 17 points and six rebounds, while Bard chipped in with 14 points.

Cotton led all players with 21 points and McCullough produced 16 off the bench for the Bulldogs.
