LOS ANGELES — Dru Ishibashi was 4 for 4 from the 3-point line, including one at the end of the shot clock with just over 1 minute to play, putting the Occidental women's basketball team up by three.
But Pomona-Pitzer's Basha Brulee-Wills made a nice drop step move in the post and scored the go-ahead basket with 7.6 seconds remaining to edge the Occidental women's basketball team, 61-60 at Rush Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Ishibashi, who finished with 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting, tried to get off a 26-foot shot on the sideline, but was fouled and it was ruled on the floor. Erin Matsumoto's desperation, off-balance three came up short as the buzzer expired along with Oxy's final chance.
The Tigers led the entire fourth quarter until Brulee-Wills' shot gave the Sagehens the one-point difference.
Oxy's bench came up big with 37 points. Triana Anderson led the way with a team-high 17 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.
Matsumoto, Oxy's leading scorer and best player, played an excellent all-around game with 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Aliana Woo lit it up from the outside for the Sagehens, going 5 of 7 from deep for 17 points. Amelia Hummel chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 9-15 and 5-10 in SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer improves to 9-13 and 6-7.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, playing Whittier at Rush Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
