A day after its biggest win of the season, the Lancaster Bible women's basketball team fought off sluggishness all evening long and defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 76-64 at Horst Athletic Center on Senior Day. The victory moves the Chargers to 19-3 overall and 16-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
How it Happened: It was a slow-go for the Chargers during the first 8:30 of the opening quarter as Lancaster Bible managed just six points. Lancaster Bible had plenty of chances to score, but simply could not convert and SUNY Cobleskill took advantage as the visitors led, 12-6 with 1:37 to play in the first quarter. The Chargers got some momentum back late in the quarter as the home team scored seven points in the final 1:18 after scoring just six during the first 8:42.
After a layup from senior Aubrey Folger closed the deficit to 12-8, junior Krissy Pennell scored the quarter's final five points to give the Chargers a 13-12 lead after one quarter of play. The Chargers slowly inched away from SUNY Cobleskill in the second quarter as Lancaster Bible used an 8-2 run to turn a 17-16 lead into a 25-18 advantage with 6:24 remaining.
The teams traded baskets for the remaining minutes of the quarter as the Chargers led, 39-28 at the break.
SUNY Cobleskill stormed out of the gate in the second half and used an 11-2 run over the opening 2:43 to trim its deficit to two at 41-39. The Fighting Tigers finally tied the game at 43-43 with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter, and though the Chargers bent, they never broke as Lancaster Bible withstood SUNY Cobleskill's run and then used an 8-0 run of their own to re-establish an eight-point edge at 51-43. A layup from Alyssa Bowen began the run which was highlighted by Kirsten Webster's three-point play.
Each team scored 17 points in the third quarter, but after scoring 15 in the first 5:15 of the quarter, the Fighting Tigers managed just two points the rest of the quarter and Lancaster Bible ended the quarter with the same lead it began the quarter with.
Lancaster Bible's lead was cut to seven two different times in the fourth quarter, but the Chargers once again withstood the charge and eventually led by as many as 15 before winning by 12.

The Coach Says: "We were pretty drained emotionally from not only Friday's game, but this entire week," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "I think one of the things we can learn from this game is the fact that we need to be ready to play, no matter how tired we are physically or emotionally. I thought once we worked ourselves into the game, we played pretty well."
On the seniors..."The seniors are the best class to ever play women's basketball here," Vanderhoff said. "They have elevated the program to new heights during their time here and the thing I love the best about them is they have become leaders on and off the floor. They step up in big moments and have led this team from day one."
