Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw extended its win streak to a season-long five games and held an opponent below 50 points for the 14th time this year in a 52-39 North Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting Kenyon.
The Tigers improved to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in the NCAC, while the Ladies dropped to 15-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play. With the win, DePauw has clinched second place in the NCAC standings.
DePauw missed its first three field goal tries, but trailed just 3-2 in the opening two minutes. The Tigers then hit their next three as part of a 7-0 run to take a 9-3 advantage.
Kenyon was within two at 14-12 before Melinda Franke's jumper with four seconds left in the opening period pushed the lead to four. Taylor Howard's jumper and back-to-back buckets by ClaireRyan extended the DePauw lead to 22-14. The Tigers' went to the half with their biggest lead at 29-18.
The Ladies were within eight at 33-25 before DePauw scored seven straight capped by MayaHoward's deep three-pointer just before the shot clock expired to make it 40-25 with 2:27 remaining in the third.
Kenyon closed the third with five straight on Shelby Gray's layup and Miranda Diesz's 3-point play.Diesz hit 1-of-2 free throws before Bailey Doninguez buried a three to trim the Tigers' lead to 40-34.
DePauw held off the Kenyon run as Maya Howard hit a layup and a pair of free throws before AbbyKeller and Ryan each added buckets to push the lead to 48-34 with 4:08 left and seal the win.
Maya Howard led DePauw with 16 points, while Ryan added 11. Keller grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds followed by Taylor Howard with a game-high 10. The Tigers held a 43-27 advantage on the boards.
Diesz paced Kenyon with 15 points with Lane Davis grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
DePauw shot 36.7 percent from the floor to Kenyon's 26.5 percent and each team committed 16 turnovers.
The Tigers wrap up the NCAC regular season on Saturday, February 20, with a 1 p.m. game at Ohio Wesleyan.
