SCHENECTADY, NY – Ariella Rosenthal had game highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Vassar College to a 66-54 women's basketball win over Union College at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night. The Brewers improved to 8-14 overall and 5-8 in the Liberty League while the Dutchwomen stand 14-7 overall and 8-5 in league play.
Caitlin Drakely had 12 points and Nicole Teta added eight rebounds for Vassar, which shot 49% including 50% in the second half.
Union was led by Natalie Leone's 12 points with six rebounds and four assists and Erin Lyons had 10 points and five assists. Sophie Borg also had 10 points. Union outrebounded Vassar, 36-34 and shot 38% in the contest.
Vassar led 20-16 after the first quarter but the teams were tied at 32-32 at halftime. The Brewers came out hot in the third quarter, opening the period with a 9-0 run after a layup by Alex Moon made it 41-32 with 7:19 to play in the third. Vassar had the largest lead at 10 at 48-38 with 1:58 left in the period. Union got to within five with 7:30 left in the fourth on two free throws by Leone, and it was also a five point Vassar lead at 52-47 with 6:03 left. But the Brewers got a layup by Samarah Cook with 2:21 left to cap a 6-0 run and led by as many as 12 twice, including the final.
