North Dartmouth, Mass.-Junior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) poured in a season-best 29 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team topped Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth, 69-64, on Wednesday night.

The opening quarter saw the Anchorwomen (6-14, 4-7 LEC) surge ahead, with a trey from Moore putting RIC up, 12-7, with 5:17 left in the opening stanza. The Anchorwomen pushed their advantage to seven, 20-13, following a three-pointer by Moore, but the Corsairs' (14-8, 4-7 LEC) senior guard Beth Castantini (Newburyport, MA) scored the last five points of the quarter to cut the RIC advantage down to just two, 20-18, entering the second frame.

The two teams traded blows in the second quarter, with a layup from RIC senior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) giving the Anchorwomen a five-point, 28-23, lead with 5:43 remaining in the half. UMD trimmed the lead down to three, 34-31, following a jumper by sophomore forward Alicia Kutil (Franklin, MA) with 2:32 remaining, but a 9-3 run to close the quarter gave the Anchorwomen a 10-point advantage heading into the halftime break.

The Corsairs began to battle back in the third quarter, with a made jump shot by junior forward Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, MA) at the 3:36 mark of the frame cutting the deficit down to eight, 48-40. The Corsairs would continue to battle back over the remainder of the quarter, using an 8-1 run to close out the frame with the Anchorwomen clinging to a one-point, 49-48, lead.

RIC opened the fourth quarter of play with a 7-0 run to extend its advantage to seven, 56-48 with 7:44 remaining in the contest. UMD was able to rally, trimming the deficit down to just three points before a Castantini triple knotted the game at 64 with 1:35 left. Moore made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to give the game its final, 69-64.

RIC shot 38.3 percent (23-for-60) from the field, 43.3 percent (13-for-30) from downtown and 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from the free throw line. Moore led all scorers with 29 points, while dishing out eight assists. Hill scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the victory for the Anchorwomen.

UMD shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) from the field, 35.3 percent (6-for-17) from long range and 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from the charity stripe. Ronaghan scored 16 points and grabbed six boards, while Kutil notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.   

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will continue Little East Conference action at Southern Maine on Saturday, Feb. 13 (1 p.m.).
