Hartford, Conn. - The Bowdoin Polar Bears scored 18 unaswered points to start the first quarter and didn't look back as they beat the Trinity College women's basketball team, 71-36, on Saturday afternoon in Hartford. The loss drops Trinity to 9-6 on the season as remain winless in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) while Bowdoin improves to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Bowdoin opened up an 18-point lead to start the game which proved to be too much for Trinity to come back from. The Polar Bears boasted a 34-16 lead at the break by senior forward Shannon Brady (Scituate, Mass.) who led the team with 12 points after two quarters. Trinity senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin(Stamford, Conn.) scored eight of her team high 14 points in the third quarter but Bowdoin's bench totaled 11 points in the third frame to keep the game out of reach for Trinity.

A suffocating Bowdoin defense held Trinity to just 7-47 shooting from the field and forced 26 Bantam turnovers. Griffin finished with eight rebounds as did junior Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) for Trinity. For Bowdoin, Brady finished with 19 points and nine rebounds, followed by junior Marle Curle (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) with 11 points and seven boards, and sophomore Lauren Petit (Medfield, Mass.) who finished with 10 points. 

Trinity returns to action next Saturday, January 30, when they travel to Amherst to take on the No. 2 ranked Purple & White. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
