New London, Conn. – Senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) totaled 17 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 62-53 win over the Mitchell College Mariners in women's basketball action this evening.  Senior captain guard Christina Raiti (Plainview, N.Y.) also finished in double figures with 12 points while senior captain guard Alexa Menard (Wallingford, Conn.) added nine points, seven rebounds and a game-high five assists for the Bantams.  Trinity, off to its best start since an 11-0 start in 2008-09, wins its third game in a row to improve to 7-1.  Mitchell is now 1-4.  Savannah Boyle (Attleboro, Mass.) netted a season-high 15 points to pace the Mariners.

Trinity kept Mitchell to single digits in each of the first two quarters to build a 31-18 lead by halftime. The Bantams took their first double-digit lead with 3:54 to go before intermission as sophomore guard Aubree Udell (Chester, N.J.) rebounded her own miss and found rookie forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.) for an open jumper in the lane. The lead expanded to 15 in the closing minute of the half before Mitchell's Jessica Shepherd (West Hartford, Conn.) tacked on a pair of free throws to close out the scoring.

The Bantams kept a comfortable lead for the first seven minutes of the third quarter, though a late flurry brought the Mariners right back into the game. A layup by first-year forward Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) gave Trinity its largest lead of the night at 40-23 with 2:54 remaining in the stanza, but Mitchell responded with a 12-0 run to pull within five by quarter's end.

Trinity began the fourth quarter with a three-pointer by Udell and a jumper by Menard to seize back momentum. Mitchell later got within six points following a jumper by Amanda Garcia (New Britain, Conn.) with 6:45 to play, but the Mariners came up empty on their next four possessions as the Bantams built the lead back to double digits. Trinity sealed the win by going 7-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final 56 seconds and shot 80 percent from the line for the game.
