Northfield, Vt. - The Trinity College women's basketball team scored a season high 82 points en route to their fifth win of the year over Maine-Presque Isle in the opening game of the Ed Hockebury Classic, hosted by Norwich University in Vermont. The Bantams shot nearly 60% from the field while limiting the Owls to 16.3% on 7-43 shooting and improve to 5-1 on the season while Maine-Presque Isle falls to 0-5.

The Bantams led 18-2 after one quarter of play and not much changed from there. Senior captain forward Melanie Mills (Woodstock, Conn.) led Trinity in scoring at the half, tallying nine points, as the Bantams boasted a 39-12 lead heading into the locker room.

Coming out of the half, Trinity kept the pressure up, outscoring the Owls 32-8, highlighted by 11 third quarter points from senior captain center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) and eight from freshman forward Erin Cunningham (Wilton, Conn.). The team went on to hold Maine-Presque Isle to a single point in the fourth quarter, putting the final score 82-21 in favor of the Bantams.

Three Trinity players scored in double digits, highlighted by Griffin's fifth double-double of the year, a 17 point, 11 rebound performance. Cunningham finished with 10 points while sophomore forward Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) came off the bench with a season high 12 points. Senior captain guard Lexi Menard(Wallingford, Conn.) scored eight points on 4-6 shooting and freshman forward Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.) added seven points off the bench. Maine-Presque Isle junior Sydney Churchill ​(Fort Fairfield, Maine) led the Owls with 10 points. 

Trinity out-rebounded the Owls 45-21 and had 14 steals on the evening. 50 of the team's 82 points came in the paint and 18 came off of second chance opportunities.

The Bantams return to action tomorrow, December 5, when they will play host Norwich in the tournament's championship game. Tip is set for 3:00 p.m.
