SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team moved to first place in the Southern Athletic Association standings with a 79-62 victory against Sewanee today on the road.

The Panthers moved to 18-2 overall and 8-2 in the Southern Athletic Association, and the Tigers fell to 11-10 overall and 3-7 in the SAA.

BSC was previously tied with Hendrix at the top of the standings, but the Warriors fell to Oglethorpe today, 73-65. OU is also one of BSC's two losses this season, defeating the Panthers 58-56 on Jan. 10.

After Sewanee led by three, twice, early in the first period, BSC pulled ahead for good, going up 21-12 by the end of the first and then 37-25 at the half.

The Panthers added to their lead in the third, out-scoring the Tigers 20-14 to go up 57-39, and led by as much as 20 in the fourth period before winning by 17.

Senior Yorisha Bryant led with 20 points, shooting 7-11 from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line, and she also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Three other Panthers scored in double figures: senior Halle Knowles had 14, senior Ashley Curry had 12, and junior Jasmynn Batts had 10. Knowles also led all players with five assists.

Sewanee freshman Bella Taylor had an impressive showing with a career-high 30 points.

BSC shot a season-high 53.5 percent (23-43) from the field, and also tied the season low with seven turnovers.

The Panthers return home for their next four games to wrap up the regular season, facing Berry this Friday, Feb. 12, and then Oglethorpe next Sunday, Feb. 14, in Bill Battle Coliseum.
