Four Colby College players scored in double figures and the Mules posted a 63-51 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Colby's Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton's Sam Graber '16 recorded her fourth double-double this season and the 21st of her collegiate career with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Graber also handed out four assists.
Caroline Barrett '17 was 5 of 6 from the floor and finished with 11 points for the Continentals (7-15, 1-7 NESCAC). Barrett was credited with four assists and Halie Serbent '19 added 11 points.
Carylanne Wolfington drained three 3-pointers and ended up with a game-high 15 points for the Mules (13-9, 5-3). Haley Driscoll dropped in 13 points and Desi Smith chipped in 11. MaryKate Caverly contributed 10 points, a team-best six rebounds and four assists. Mia Diplock dished out four assists and came away with four steals. Colby shot 53.3 percent (8-15) from 3-point range and 90.5 percent (19-21) at the free-throw line.
Barrett gave Hamilton a 2-0 lead in the first minute on the Continentals' first field goal attempt. Wolfington and Smith buried 3-pointers for a 6-2 Mules' advantage and Colby led the rest of the way.
Hamilton was still within two points at 10-8 after Serbent made layups on consecutive possessions by the Continentals midway through the first quarter. The Mules responded with a 16-3 run that spanned the first and second quarters and gave them a comfortable advantage.
Wolfington knocked down a 3-pointer and Emily Davis, Diplock and Katie McCrum made two free throws each. Barrett hit a shot from long range and pulled Hamilton within 19-11 at the end of the quarter.
Davis started the second quarter with a layup, Caverly sank a 3-pointer and Driscoll's jumper made it 26-11 with 7:09 left. Colby's lead grew to as much as 19 points late in the second quarter. The Mules made 6 of 10 shots from 3-point range and all 10 of their free-throw attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The Continentals clawed within eight at 41-33 midway through the third quarter but didn't get any closer.
Hamilton hosts Trinity College for another NESCAC game on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.
