Newark, NJ – Stockton University (17-3, 11-2 NJAC) outscored Rutgers-Newark (6-14, 2-11) 18-6 in the fourth quarter to win going away 54-41 for its 15th consecutive win. Stockton's interior duo ofNajha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) and Sasha Williams(Cherry Hill/CH West) powered the Ospreys to victory, shooting a combined 13-23 (56.5%) and both registering double-doubles.
Treadwell scored 18 points and grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds while Williams also tossed in 18 markers and snagged 10 boards. Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) contributed six points and a career-high six rebounds for the Ospreys, who controlled the glass with a 53-44 rebound margin in a game that included nine lead changes.
Stockton led 36-35 entering the fourth quarter but fell behind 39-38 in the first 1:15 before the teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes. The Ospreys seized control by scoring 14 unanswered points for a 52-39 advantage. Williams led the charge with eight points and Treadwell added four.
Overall, Stockton went 6-10 from the floor and Williams scored 12 of her team's 18 points in the final period as the Ospreys extended their school-record winning streak, 54-41.
Both teams struggled to score in the first half as Stockton shot 26.7 percent (8-30) from the floor but still outdid Rutgers-Newark, which hit only 20.6 percent of its shots (7-34). The largest margin of the half came at 22-16 Stockton on a layup by Shaqui Coppage (Salem/Salem) in the last minute before a Scarlet Raiders' basket made it 22-18 at the break.
Stockton opened up a 29-20 lead after consecutive layups by Treadwell early in the third period but Rutgers-Newark answered with 13-3 run to pull ahead 33-32. Williams later closed the quarter with a jumper at the 44-second mark that put the Ospreys ahead 36-35 after three and set the stage for the dominant fourth quarter.
Stockton will hit the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at Rutgers-Camden at 6 p.m.
