BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team were in control of the action from the opening minute of play as the Golden Eagles dominated the Cortland Red Dragons Tuesday evening with a convincing 88-53 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Brockport (11-7 Overall, 7-4 SUNYAC) collectively shot 61-percent from the floor including an impressive seven-of-16 from three point range. The Golden Eagles effort was not reserved for the offensive side either as they held the Red Dragons to 33-percent from the field.

All 14 Golden Eagles saw action during the contest with several big performances. Brockport's top three scorers' tallied double figures close to their season averages as Olivia Suhr scored 16, Faith Welch totaled 13 and Hannah Spencer 12.

The Green and Gold made it clear that they were going to work the ball into Suhr early and often, taking advantage of her height. Suhr put Brockport ahead with two layups in the first 90 seconds of play. The Red Dragons adjusted, beginning to deny the lob in pass but the Golden Eagles did not miss a beat as the team's guards started nailing shots.

After Cortland sank a three, Welch quickly responded with a three less than 15 seconds later on an assist from Hannah Rehbaum. Spencer scored the Golden Eagles next basket on a shot from beyond the arc, crediting Welch with the assist which gave Brockport the 10-5 advantage with 6:36 left in the first quarter.

Spencer continued to dominate the middle of the first, scoring Brockport's next five points pushing the lead to 15-7. Fellow freshman Schyler Laux scored the next four points for Brockport as the Golden Eagles held Cortland scoreless for nearly seven minutes spanning from the end of the first quarter to the second quarter.

The Golden Eagles held a 28-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to dominate all facets of the second stretching its lead out to 48-20. Cortland played fairly evenly with Brockport in the third quarter but it was too little too late.

The Green and Gold starters made way for the next unit who continued the fiery start. Freshman Becky Rossier scored Brockport's first six points of the fourth quarter before seniors Lisa Yacovoni and Erin Cunningham got in on the action with baskets of their own. Alyssa Wagner added a basket halfway through the final quarter to push Brockport ahead 77-39.

Moments later senior Marissa Pike stepped onto the court and immediately drained a three pointer from a foot outside of the arc to give Brockport its largest lead of the game, 80-39. The Golden Eagles pulled back the reins somewhat towards the end only scoring two points on free throws from Pike for three minutes until Alyssa Rusinko stole a Cortland pass with 45 seconds remaining. She raced down the court making a nice floating jumper in the paint. Yacovoni finished the game with a shot clock buzzer beating shot on a pass from Lindsay Johnson.

Suhr topped all scorers with 16 on eight-of-12 shooting, also leading the team with six rebounds and two blocks. Rehbaum and Johnson also added five rebounds apiece. Welch finished the contest with four steals and five assists which led the team.

Brockport hits the road this Friday, traveling to Geneseo for a rematch of last Friday's contest on different courts. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Golden Eagle scores and awards by following @BportAthletics on Twitter and by liking the "Brockport Golden Eagles" Facebook page.
