ORANGE — Erin Matsumoto led three Occidental women's basketball players in double figures with 14 points in a 60-53 loss at Chapman on Saturday.
Midori McElwee added 12 and Triana Anderson chipped in 10.
Season Impact: The Tigers fall to 7-12 overall and 3-7 in SCIAC play.
Chapman improves to 13-6 and 8-2.
Oxy stayed close to perennial SCIAC power Chapman, outscoring the Panthers 18-14 to cut their eight-point halftime lead in half. In the fourth quarter, Oxy got even closer when Paige Waters cut the lead to two (48-46) with a bucket with 7 minutes left in the game.
Both teams then went on a more than 3-minute scoring drought until Jaime Hum-Nishikado hit a three to bump the lead back up to five points with 4:34 remaining.
The Tigers weren't able to get it back to a one-possession game.
Megan Charles and Lauren Sato led the Panthers with 12 points each.
