The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team ran its winning streak to six games on Saturday as the Chargers defeated Gallaudet, 87-60 in a key North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division matchup at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are now 13-3 overall and 10-1 in NEAC play. The Bison drop to 9-7 overall and 8-4 in conference action.

How it Happened: Things did not start well for the Chargers as Gallaudet hit open shots and played tough defense in the opening minutes and secured an 18-10 lead with 3:39 to play in the first quarter. A quick 6-0 run by Lancaster Bible cut the deficit to two, but the Bison answered with their own 5-0 run and regained a seven-point lead at 23-16. Gallaudet eventually took a 24-18 lead at the end of one quarter as the Chargers trailed after 10 minutes for the first time during their five-game homestand.

As the quarter changed, the fortunes of Lancaster Bible changed with it as the Chargers opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run and took a 25-24 lead thanks to a three-point play the old fashioned way from Shanice Smith with 9:01 to play in the quarter. The teams exchanged buckets for the next few minutes before Lancaster Bible turned a 32-31 deficit into a 42-32 lead thanks to an 11-0 run. Senior Katy Stover had four points during the run, while Krissy Pennell had three for the Chargers who never trailed again.

After taking a 44-36 lead into halftime, the Chargers were off and running again early in the third quarter asAubrey Folger and Katy Stover scored on two of the Chargers' first three possessions in the second half to give Lancaster Bible a 49-36 advantage. The Chargers continued to pour it on in the third quarter and two Folger free throws to end the quarter gave Lancaster Bible a 69-49 lead after three quarters.

A 7-0 run over the first 2:51 of the fourth quarter put the game away for good as the Chargers took a 76-49 lead thanks to a 3-pointer from Pennell and buckets from Shanice Smith and Stover. Lancaster Bible would lead by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter before securing a 27-point win.

By the Numbers: Folger tied a career-high with 31 points...She was 13-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line...Folger also had 31 points on Jan. 25, 2014 in a win against St. Elizabeth...Smith finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds...Pennell had 16 points and nine assists...Her four 3-pointers are a career-high...Stover chipped in with 11 points and six assists...Lancaster Bible shot 37-of-66 (56.1 percent) from the floor, the team's best mark of the season...The Chargers turned the ball over just 13 times and forced 24 Gallaudet turnovers...The Bison were led by Zamica Gage's 22 points.

The Coach Says: "We challenged the team after the first half to just relax and play our game," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We forced some things in the first quarter and our effort wasn't great. Gallaudet outplayed us in the first quarter and we just needed to play better."

On the play of Folger and Pennell..."The two of them are playing very well right now," Vanderhoff said. "They are a great a combo of a guard and post player and they read one another extremely well. If a defender gives Aubrey one inch, Krissy gets the ball to her and Aubrey converts it into points."

On the team's recent play..."We've grown a lot in the past two weeks," Vanderhoff said. "The loss to Morrisville State two weeks ago woke us up and probably helped us in the long run. We are not settling anymore and our seniors are really setting the tone for the rest of the team."

Extra! Extra!: A day after breaking the program-record for assists in a season, Pennell added nine assists on Saturday and now has 137 in just 16 games...Folger's 31 points give her 1,907 for her career and she is just 73 points away from breaking the Lancaster Bible basketball record for points in a career which is currently held by Sam Rempel (1997-01)...Smith's 19 points on Saturday give her 984 for her career and she needs just 16 points to become the 10th player in program history to score 1,000 points...Oddly enough, Smith is also 16 rebounds from 1,000 as well as she has grabbed 984 boards in her tremendous career.
