LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team set the tone early in a home win over Lakeland College.

Raven Willis scored on a jumper with 7:36 to play in the first quarter, opening a 16-0 run the enabled Benedictine to take control and never look back
Jasma Williams capped the stretch with a basket at the 2:55 mark, making the score 18-3 as Benedictine shot 57 percent in the opening quarter
Lakeland surged in the second quarter, pulling within 33-27 after a run of 11-3
Benedictine closed the first half strong, using a 12-2 spurt to lead 45-29 at the break following consecutive buckets from Georgia Alexakos and D'Asia Williams
The visitors were no closer than 12 in the second half as Benedictine continued on for the win

"We came out with great energy and effort today," head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "We said in pregame that the key would be rebounding and we did a great job attacking the glass. We received some great efforts from Georgia (Alexakos) and Shannon Ryan off the bench in the first half that helped keep momentum on our side. Venita Parsons and Alanna (Ferry) did a great job handling the Lakeland pressure."

STAT LEADERS
Four players were able to reach double figures for Benedictine
Briana Hamilton led the way with 12 points with Alanna Ferry adding 11 to go with eight assists
Nicole Botich finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds and DeKayla Crayton touched 10 off the bench
Benedictine held a 49-25 advantage on the glass and shot 50 percent for the game
The bench scored 35 points and Benedictine picked up 38 in the paint
