GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team overcame a six-point halftime deficit and won 88-75 over Rutgers-Camden in a conference game on Wednesday night.

The Profs have an overall mark of 17-2 and they have an 11-1 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Scarlet Raptors are 11-6 overall and they are 6-5 in the conference.

Guard/forward Kaitlin Schullstrom (gr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) matched her career-high with 26 points. Guard Anyssa Sanchez (jr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) scored 15 points and had five rebounds. Guard/forward Melissa Lake (gr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) recorded 14 points. Guard Valerie Garofalo (jr. Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) contributed with 13 points and a career-high nine assists. Forward Kate Matthews (gr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds and had four blocks.

For Rutgers-Camden, guard/forward Kamari Talley (sr. Camden, NJ/Creative Arts) netted 21 points and corralled 11 boards. Forward/center Caroline Santiago (jr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) collected 19 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Gabby Greene (fr. Howell, NJ/Howell) chipped in with 13 points. Forward/center Michelle Obasi (so. Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) and guard/forward Cara Racobaldo (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) each added 11 points.

Rutgers-Camden held a 7-5 lead with 7:15 to play in the first quarter. Schullstrom then hit back-to-back jumpers (6:25 and 5:35) to put Rowan out in front 9-7. The score was then tied at nine (4:17), 13 (2:31) and 15 (1:21). The Scarlet Raptors tallied the final four points of the quarter on layups by Obasi (1:07) and Racobaldo (0:16) to take a 19-15 advantage into the second.

Talley made the first bucket of the second (9:07) to extend the lead to six (21-15). A Sanchez free throw cut the deficit to three (21-18) with 7:22 on the clock, but Greene connected on a three-pointer (7:02) and Santiago made a layup (5:32) giving Rutgers-Camden an eight-point cushion (26-18). The Profs collected the next nine points go ahead 27-26 with 3:03 remaining. Sanchez had four points, Lake contributed with three and Matthews scored two. Rutgers-Camden then ended the half on an 11-4 run that included points from five different players and went into the break with a 37-31 lead.

Rowan began the third frame with a 20-3 run to regain the lead, 51-40 at the 5:54 mark. Schullstrom had 10 points and four other Profs scored. Rutgers-Camden responded by collecting 13 of the next 15 points to tie the contest at 53 with 1:17 remaining. The Profs tallied the final seven points of the stanza and went into the fourth with a 60-53 advantage.

In the final quarter, the Scarlet Raptors trimmed the deficit to four (65-61) with 6:04 on the clock. Lake then hit a triple (5:16) and Garofalo converted a layup (4:47) to push the lead back to nine (70-61). Rutgers-Camden got to within three (72-69) at the 2:29 mark, but the Profs ended the contest with a 16-6 run that included nine made free throws.

Rowan travels to New Jersey City University on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.
