Strong Vikings Second Half Snaps Three Game Win Streak for Women’s Basketball

Buffalo, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team was outscored by 11 points in the second half as host Villa Maria College earned a 69-51 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) led the Roos (4-8) with 14 points and 10 rebounds on her second double-double of the season. Caselynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, NY) posted eight points and a game-high 19 rebounds, while Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) chipped in with nine points and 10 rebounds. Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) also scored eight points to go with her five boards.

Villa Maria (14-5) jumped out to an early 9-4 lead but the Roos responded scoring 11 of the next 15 points to take a 15-13 lead. The Vikings led 16-15 after one. Villa scored the first five points of the second quarter to open up a six point advantage and they led by as many as eight (30-22) with 1:43 left in the opening half. The hosts took a seven point lead at 32-25 into intermission.

 

The Vikings controlled play in the second half extending their lead to as many as 21 en route to the 69-51 win. Shaquana Owens paced Villa with 27 points and 18 rebounds, while Magan Campbell added 16 points and nine rebounds and Jayvonna Kincannon chipped in 17 points.

SUNY Canton held a 58-48 edge in rebounding and 12-4 advantage in bench scoring. The Vikings had the upper hand in points in the paint (32-20). Villa shot 37 percent from the field, while the Roos hit on just 27 percent of their field goal attempts.
