Gwynedd Mercy Women Dealt First CSAC Setback

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy had their win streak come to an end as Marywood handed the Griffins their first CSAC defeat, 56-47, Wednesday night at The Griffin Complex.

Julianna Hoisington led the Griffins with 14 points while Nicole Dombrowski recorded her first career double-double, notching 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Natasha Hessling and Gabrielle Giodano each netted 12 apiece for the Pacers (11-6, 8-0 CSAC).

Gwynedd (13-4, 7-1 CSAC) led 40-37 going into the fourth quarter, but would make just three field goals in the final stanza, scoring just seven points. GMercyU also had trouble at the line for the contest, going a season-worst 5-for-16 (31.3%) from the stripe.

After going 4-for-19 in the first quarter, GMercyU battled through their slow start to trail by two (14-12) after one. In the second, the team found its touch, going 7-for-13 from the floor including a pair of three-pointers from Hoisington and Charlotte Kucowski. The hot shooting period gave Gwynedd a 29-22 lead at the half.

Dombrowski's bucket early in the third gave the Griffins their largest lead of the contest (36-24). But Marywood gradually climbed back in it, and would trail by three after three.

The Pacers hit five of their seven three pointers in the fourth with the eventual go-ahead triple coming with 4:20 left in the game. Giordano hit the first of her two treys for a 48-47 lead. After four Griffin possessions that yielded no points, Giordano hit again from deep with 1:43 showing to add to the lead. Gwynedd would not score over the final 4:50 of the game. Tara Steakin would connect from behind the arc on the next trip down the court to stretch the deficit 54-47 with 32 seconds left.

Kucowski totaled seven points and 10 rebounds before fouling out early in the fourth. Dombrowski, Bianca Adams, and Alison Szyszko all dished out three assists each.

Giordano, Hessling, and Alexa Gerchmann all pulled down eight rebounds apiece. Gerchmann chipped in five assists.

Gwynedd Mercy will look to regroup for Saturday's CSAC matchup with Cairn, here at The Griffin Complex, starting at 1 p.m.
