BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Shooting over 65 percent in the second half, the Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team rolled to a 71-51 victory over Sewanee, Sunday afternoon in Bill Battle Coliseum.

The Panthers moved to 15-1 overall and 5-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, and have won four straight games, while the Tigers fell to 10-8 overall and 2-5 in the SAA.

The first period was close, with three ties and two lead changes, and BSC led 13-10 by the end of the first 10 minutes. Sewanee cut it to 16-15 early in the second period, but the Panthers used a 10-0 run to pull up 26-15 by the 3:32 mark.

After BSC led 29-25 at the half, Sewanee opened the third period with a three-pointer to cut it to 29-28, but that was the closest they would come the rest of the way. The Panthers put together a 20-4 run, going up 49-32 with 1:37 left in the period, and led 51-37 heading to the fourth.

The Tigers managed to cut the lead to 10 early in the fourth, but after that BSC steadily increased its advantage, out-scoring Sewanee 20-14 in the final 10 minutes to win by 20.

Senior Yorisha Bryant and junior Jameice Holmes led with 14 points apiece. Holmes was 6-9 from the field and Bryant was 5-11. Bryant also led with a game-high eight rebounds, and senior Halle Knowles led with six assists and three steals. Senior Ashley Curry also added 12 points on 5-10 shooting, as well as five assists, and junior Jasmynn Batts posted 11 points on 4-8 shooting.

BSC shot 50 percent (26-52) from the field, including 10-14 (71.4 percent) in the third and 5-9 (55.6 percent) in the fourth. The Panthers also committed a season-low seven turnovers.

BSC is on the road for its next four games, facing Rhodes next Friday in Memphis, and Hendrix next Sunday in Conway, Ark.
