Momentum Building

More news about: Albion

With four players amassing double-digit points, Albion College earned a 101-32 victory over Illinois Tech in non-league women's basketball action.

It was the first time Albion had scored in triple digits since Jan. 28, 2005, a 106-100 victory over Tri-State University.

Junior guard Emily Zgoda tied her season-high with 17 points. She was 6-of-10 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range.

Catie Neary, a sophomore guard from Brookston, Ind., Darian Payne, a senior center from Lisle, Ill., and Chloe Waszak, a first-year guard from St. John's, produced 10 points apiece.

"The momentum we've created is huge," Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "We've won three in a row on the road, and we are going to look to continue to carry that momentum into next week."

As a team, the Britons shot nearly 46 percent from the field and accumulated 62 points off of the bench. Albion was able to get 58 points off of Illinois Tech turnovers.

"Wins like this are huge for the team because it gives the entire team a huge boost of confidence," Carden said.

Albion scored at least 20 points in each of the four quarters and never trailed. There was no give in the Britons' game, as they outscored the Hawks 31-4 in the fourth quarter.

"We didn't approach this game any differently," Carden said. "We prepared the same because you never know what could happen."

Payne grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

With the win, the Britons move to 7-10 on the season. The team has another road game coming up Wednesday when it travels to Kalamazoo College.
