Second Half Surge leads to another SUNYAC Sweep

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team's offense caught fire in the second half and surged forward for a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory at home against Oswego State, defeating the Lakers 66-49 in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Brockport (8-6 Overall, 4-3 SUNYAC) utilized a second half in which the Golden Eagles shot 67-percent from the floor to erase a 26-22 deficit and sweep Oswego, the second SUNYAC opponent Brockport has swept – the first being Buffalo State. Senior forward Olivia Suhr sparked the offense in the second half as her hard work down low got the team rolling.

When the Lakers began to put more attention on the reigning SUNYAC Player of the Week Brockport's offense began to erupt with open looks which it capitalized on. Suhr finished the contest a single rebound away from her fourth straight double-double as she totaled 23 points and nine rebounds.

Suhr scored the first two baskets of the third quarter to bring the game to a 26-all score. Her first basket came when Schyler Laux received a pass inside the right wing of the arc, she pump faked her defender and sent a pass down low to Suhr. She quickly layed the ball up before Oswego could adjust. The second basket was assisted by Faith Welch.

The Golden Eagles spread the ball around at a highly efficient rate finishing the contest with 20 assists compared to Oswego's 11. Junior Hannah Rehbaum finished the game with a career high seven assists as she led the team.

Suhr scored 12 of Brockport's 22 points in the third quarter as the Golden Eagles outscored the Lakers 22-11. Rehbaum assisted on the three of the final four Brockport baskets, two to Suhr and one to Laux. Rehbaum scored the final basket of the third frame on a pass from Suhr to stretch the Golden Eagle lead to 44-37.

The Golden Eagles quickly added to its lead scoring the first seven points of the final quarter. On Brockport's opening possession of the quarter, Suhr caught the ball down low as the Lakers defense swarmed her she kicked it out to Hannah Spencer who drained the three-ball. Suhr stole the ball on Oswego's next possession and finished the play on a pass from Rehbaum.

The Green and Gold continued to stretch their lead which was capped off by Welch's three-pointer with 19 seconds remaining.

Several Golden Eagles finished with impressive stat lines. In addition to Suhr's points and rebounds she finished the game with four blocks, three steals and three assists to only one turnover. Rehbaum was on her way towards a triple-double but needed a little more time as she tallied 11 points, seven rebounds to go with her seven assists. Welch scored 13 points adding five assists. Spencer scored 11 points while fellow freshman Laux scored four while adding three assists.

Lindsay Johnson played the most minutes of her young Golden Eagle career as she faced her former team of the Lakers. The sophomore forward finished the game with two points and five rebounds, both highs for her Brockport career, in just 11 minutes.
