Naz Pulls Away Late to Down Women’s Basketball, 87-74

            ROCHESTER, NY – Hartwick netted season-highs of 74 points and 11 three-pointers, but it wasn't enough as host Nazareth used a late 8-0 run to snap a 70-all tie in an 87-74 Hawks' loss Tuesday night at Kidera Gymnasium. 'Wick fought back to tie the game despite a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit before the Flyers ended the game on a 17-4 run to close out the victory.
            The loss snaps a three-game Hartwick win streak and drops the Hawks to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Golden Flyers improve to 11-4 and 4-2.
            Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) led four Hawks in double figures with team-highs of 21 points and seven rebounds, and a game-high four blocks. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) chipped in with 12 points and a game-high seven assists. Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) contributed 11 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Alicia Razanousky (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) scored 10.
            The game was back and forth throughout with a total of 12 lead changes and seven tie scores.
            After leading by four after the first quarter, a Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) three-pointer gave the Hawks their biggest lead of the night, 24-17, with 8:58 left in the first half. A 14-3 Nazareth run would put the hosts back in front with 4:40 left. The Hawks would hang tough with five straight three-pointers over a six-minute span before the Flyers took a 40-39 edge into halftime.
            In the third quarter, the lead changed hands twice before Naz grabbed the lead with a three-pointer from Kelly Broderick, which broke a 48-48 tie with 4:40 remaining. The Hawks kept the deficit to five points or less through the remainder of the period.
            Nazareth made three straight three-point field goals in the opening minute and a half of the fourth period to go up 64-52. A 16-2 Hartwick run, capped by a Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) trey put the Hawks ahead 68-66 with 3:26 showing on the clock.
            Following four straight points from Naz, a Vonasek jumper tied the score for the final time 70-70 with 2:49 left. An old fashioned three-point play from Lindsay Kelly put the Flyers up to stay. They secured the win from the free-throw line with nine straight makes in the final 2:28.
             Hartwick made 47% of its shots in the contest and hit 55% from three-point range. Nazareth finished the night making 46% from the floor and 17 three-pointers.
            Sam Sorge nailed seven threes for a game-high 27 points for the Flyers. Kelly had 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
            Vonasek and Johnson each made 3-of-4 from distance. Razanousky and Stone each hit two. Johnson ended the game with nine points. Corbett and Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) had five points apiece.
