Women's basketball's nine-game winning streak ends in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The No. 14 UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end as No. 20 UW-Oshkosh outscored the Pointers 43-22 in the second half to win 60-46 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Kolf Sports Center.

Taylor Schmidt scored all of her game-high 16 points in the second half to fuel the strong second half for UW-Oshkosh (12-3, 3-1 WIAC), which shot 65.2 percent (15-for-23) from the field in the second half. UW-Stevens Point (12-3, 3-1 WIAC) held a 24-17 lead at the break.

The Pointers held a 29-25 lead with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter before the Titans hit four consecutive three-pointers as part of a 14-5 close to the frame. Four different players accounted for the string of threes for UW-Oshkosh, which took a five-point lead into the fourth.

UW-Stevens Point started the fourth with Lauren Anklam three-pointer and a layup by Taylor Douglas on either side of a UW-Oshkosh bucket to trail just 42-39 with 7:37 left. However, an Alex Richard jumper and a Schmidt three extended the hosts' lead back to eight.

UW-Oshkosh would lead by at least five for the rest of the game and held UW-Stevens Point scoreless for the final 2:21 to pull away. Richard added 12 points and seven rebounds to Schmidt's 16, while Melissa Selner posted eight points and nine boards.

Anklam scored 11 of her team-best 13 points in the second half, including a pair of three-pointers. Allie Miceli had seven points and nine rebounds, while Douglas and Lexi Roland each scored six.

UW-Oshkosh forced UW-Stevens Point into 18 turnovers and held a 21-1 advantage in points off turnovers in the win. Five different players hit threes for the Titans.

The Titans got out to an early 8-3 lead in the first half of the first quarter before the Pointers went on a 9-0 run to go ahead 12-8. UW-Stevens Point later led by eight, 22-14, with 3:11 left in the second quarter, which was the largest lead of the opening half.

UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-River Falls (13-2, 4-0 WIAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at Berg Gym. The Falcons received 19 votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
