Hawks Cruise to 63-36 Victory Over Elmira

            ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick women's basketball won its third straight game on Saturday with a 63-36 rout of visiting Elmira College (4-11, 1-5 E8). With the victory, the Hawks are now 6-7 overall and 4-1 in league play.
            Hartwick held the Soaring Eagles to 26% shooting for the game. Elmira committed 27 turnovers in the game, which the Hawks turned into 27 points.
            Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland) led the Hawks in scoring with 14 points. She also tied for a team-high with six rebounds, grabbed a game-high five steals, and dished out three assists. Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith) was also in double figures with 13 points.
            After a low-scoring first quarter which saw only 17 points from both teams, the Hawks dominated the second by out-scoring the Soaring Eagles 22-7 for a 30-16 lead at halftime. Vonasek (11) and Foreman (8) paced 'Wick offensively. EC had a dismal quarter as it made just two baskets and committed nine turnovers. The Soaring Eagles would commit 19 in the first half in total.
            The Hawks blew the game open in the third quarter as they started on a 15-0 run to take a 29-point, 45-16 lead. 'Wick would lead by a count of 50-25 heading into the final period.
            An Anna Hickey (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) three-pointer increased the lead to 30 points, 58-28, at the midway point of the fourth quarter. Hartwick would maintain at least a 25-point advantage the rest of the way to secure the victory.
            The Hawks would shoot 45% from the floor in the contest. They out-scored EC 30-4 in the paint in the contest.
            Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) and Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) each contributed nine points for the Hawks. Stone would add five boards and four assists.
            Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) scored eight points. Hickey finished with five points and Jessica Bellai (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) added seven assists, three points, and two steals.
            Danielle Cleary was the lone Soaring Eagle in double figures with 12 points. Meghan Loya chipped in with eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
            Hartwick hits the road for its next game on Tuesday, January 19. The Hawks travel to Nazareth for a meeting with the Golden Flyers beginning at 8 p.m.
