Crosby Scores 18 as Cortland Women Sail Past Potsdam, 74-45

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland surged to a 28-6 lead after the first quarter and the Red Dragons defeated visiting Potsdam, 74-45, in a SUNYAC women's basketball contest. Cortland (9-3, 4-1 SUNYAC) extended its winning streak to six games with the victory.

Alyssa Crosby (Brier Hill/Hammond) led Cortland with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals in 20 minutes of action. She made 5-of-9 field goals and 8-of-10 free throws. Kristy Vitucci (Deer Park) poured in 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Stephanie Rice (Duanesburg) totaled 12 points.

Also for the Red Dragons, Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and Cassidy Chapko (Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) each scored eight points. Jennifer Deuel (Whitesboro) finished with six points, four assists and six steals, and Danielle Levine (Holbrook/Sachem North) hauled in seven rebounds.

Laura Coleman was the lone double-figure scorer for Potsdam (1-11, 0-5 SUNYAC) with 10 points. Victoria Shopovick added eight points, Breanne Sapp led the Bears with seven rebounds, and Janay Smith totaled four assists and five rebounds.

Crosby scored 11 points in the opening quarter to help Cortland establish its 22-point lead. Cortland led 38-14 at halftime and outscored Potsdam 36-31 in the second half. Cortland shot 44 percent from the field compared to 31 percent for the Bears.

Cortland will host Plattsburgh on Saturday at 2 p.m.
