BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Center Alicia Brown (FY/Greenland, N.H.) scored a career-high 25 points to power the University of New England women's basketball team to an 81-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory (CCC) over Eastern Nazarene College Thursday (Jan. 14) evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Winners of five consecutive games, the Nor'easters (10-3, 7-0 CCC) have now won their last 15 meetings with Eastern Nazarene (9-5, 4-3). UNE is a perfect 30-0 in regular-season conference games at the Harold Alfond Forum since the facility opened in 2012.
Brown was 9 of 16 from the floor and added seven rebounds to go with two blocked shots. Brooke Flaherty (JR/Portland, Maine) and Sam MacDonald (SO/Lebanon, N.H) combined for 25 points off the UNE bench. Flaherty had six boards and three steals in addition to her 14 points, while MacDonald was 5-for-8 from the floor and totaled four of the Nor'easters' 21 steals. Meghan Gribbin (SR/Windham, Maine) and Lauren Hayden (SR/Chantilly, Va.) each had nine points and five assists.
Jasmine Mata (SR/Santa Barbara, Calif.) was the lone Lion player in double figures. She scored 11 points and had six rebounds. Nicole Greer (SR/Odenton, Md.) and BreAnna Fraser (JR/Henderson, Nev.) tallied eight points apiece, with Fraser also contributing six caroms and five assists.
UNE led from start-to-finish, scoring the first eight points of the contest on its way to a 23-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. Brown had six points in the frame and added another six in the second to help the Nor'easters establish a 40-19 lead heading into halftime.
The Nor'easters would cruise in the third and fourth quarters, leading by as many as 31 (69-38) while maintaining a margin of at least 18 over the final 20 minutes.
UNE shot 47.9 percent (34 of 71) from the floor for the game and forced 29 Lion turnovers. Eastern Nazarene made just 33.9 percent (19 of 56) of its field goal attempts.
Both teams will play 1 p.m. CCC home games Saturday. The Lions will host Western New England University, while the Nor'easters entertain Roger Williams University.
