GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 18 Knights overcame a 15-point deficit on Wednesday to defeat the Adrian Bulldogs, 91-81. Calvin outscored Adrian in the final 20 minutes, 58-39. The win moves Calvin to 11-3 on the year and 6-0 in the MIAA. Adrian falls to 7-7 and 4-2 in the MIAA.

"Tonight showed we have a lot of character in this program," said head coach John Ross. "We have wonderful people, great young women. To respond after we struggled a bit and Adrian came out incredibly well. It just shows the heart of our players, we talked about our heart and having to play harder in the locker room at halftime and I was really proud with how we responded."

The first quarter saw the Bulldogs jump out to an early and take a 19-13 lead. The Knights would go on a 4-0 before Antoinea McElroy of Adrian drained a three-point basket before time expired to lead, 22-17.

Adrian started the second quarter off strong, scoring five points in the first minute. The Bulldogs would push the lead to 15 at 36-21 five minutes left in the second quarter. The Knights would continue to chip away at the lead with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 36-31. Calvin would go into halftime trailing, 42-33.

The Knights started the third quarter with a 7-0 run to cut into Adrian lead. Sophomore Bre Luurtsema tied the game at 48 with a layup and gave the Knights the lead with a free throw. In the third quarter, Calvin outscored Adrian, 26-11 to lead 59-53 after 30 minutes.

Sophomore Ali Spayde started the fourth quarter draining a three-point basket to set the tone for the Knights. The Bulldogs would put a dent in the Calvin lead but the Knights would make their free throws to fend off the Bulldogs.

Ali Spayde led the Knights on Wednesday with 26 points. Junior Anna Timmer had a team-high 15 rebounds and five steals on the night. Senior Abby Springer had the most assists for the Knights with six.

The Knights shot 55.9% in the final 20 minutes, compared to 33.3% in the first 20 minutes and shot 58.3% from three-point range in the final two quarters, compared to 22.2% in the first two quarters. Calvin also took advantage in the paint in the final 20 minutes, outscoring Adrian in the paint, 22-10.

The Knights return to action on Saturday as they hit the road to face the Scots of Alma College.
