Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's defense limited visiting Wittenberg to just 21.6 percent shooting from the field including 13 percent in the first half and snapped a two-game losing streak with a 62-28 North Coast Athletic Conference in Neal Fieldhouse.
DePauw improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while the visiting Tigers dropped to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The host Tigers scored the game's first four points and never trailed in the win. Leading 10-4 after the first quarter, DePauw scored the first 11 points of the second stanza to cap a 17-0 run and take a 21-4 lead with 6:14 left in the first half. The hosts took a 27-7 lead into the halftime intermission.
Wittenberg scored 16 in the third quarter, but DePauw stretched the lead to 44-23 headed into the final period. DePauw quickly put the game away with nine straight points to push the lead to 30.
Emily Budde led DePauw with 12 points, while Maya Howard chipped in 10. Abby Keller grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds including seven on the offensive boards. Jenna Stoner led with three assists and Budde registered three steals.
Taylore Bundy led Wittenberg with 14 points and six rebounds with Michelle Brunswick adding three assists.
DePauw shot 37.5 percent from the field and held a 45-34 edge on the boards for a 19-3 advantage in second-chance points. The host Tigers committed just 11 turnovers to 24 for Wittenberg.
The 28 points allowed was DePauw's best defensive performance since it allowed Rose-Hulman just 20 points on January 20, 1996.
DePauw hosts Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, January 16 at 3 p.m.
