DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's basketball team never trailed in an 80-47 rout of Manhattanville College in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest on Wednesday.
The Aggies have a 5-9 overall record and they are 1-2 in the conference. The Valiants sit at 9-4 with a 1-2 MAC Freedom mark.
DelVal got off to a torrid start, recording the first 14 points of the game. Senior Eireann Anastasi and junior Sam Foy had four points each in the opening run while senior Kelsey Kilpatrick and freshman Danielle Skedzielewski scored three apiece. Manhattanville produced the next five points to cut the deficit to nine but that would be the closest the Valiants would get for the remainder of the contest. With the score at 14-5, the Aggies went on a 13-4 spurt into the second quarter to lead 27-9 with 8:33 to go. Anastasi tallied eight of the 13. The score was 35-22 with 5:11 left before DelVal ended the half with an 11-3 surge. Kilpatrick led the way with five points. Anastasi finished the half with 14 points followed by Foy's 12 and Kilpatrick's 11 respectively.
The Aggies kept a comfortable margin throughout the second half. With the score at 61-37 and 9:24 left in the fourth quarter, DelVal went on its final large run (15-2) for its biggest lead at 37 (76-39). Anastasi had five points, Foy put up four and Skedzielewski and Kilpatrick contributed three apiece.
DelVal shot an impressive 55 percent (33-60) from the field, including 47 percent (7-15) from three-point range. Anastasi totaled a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds, five steals and four assists. She moved into third place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,442 points. Skedzielewski amassed 17 points while Foy and Kilpatrick poured in 16 apiece. Freshman Brianna Rivello grabbed seven rebounds and dished seven assists.
For Manhattanville, Ashley Raaf had 15 points and Joiada Darnell scored eight. Kayleah McGuire corralled eight rebounds and Brittany Deieso totaled six assists.
The Aggies visit Wilkes University for a conference game on Saturday, January 16 (1:00 p.m.).
