Temple Leads No. 1 Saints to a 103-56 Win Over W&J

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Freshman guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the top-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 103-56 win over Washington & Jefferson College today (Saturday, January 9, 2016) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 12-0 overall and 6-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Presidents' fall to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to an early 5-0 lead when senior forward Alexa Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) made a lay-up with 8:33 to play in the first quarter.  W&J answered with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 5-4 on a Beka Bellhy jumper with 7:21 to play in the opening quarter.  The Saints closed out the quarter on a 26-6 run to take a 31-10 lead after one quarter when senior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County) made a three-pointer with 59-seconds to play in the first quarter.

The Saints opened the second quarter on a 5-0 run to increase the lead to 37-10 with 8:41 to play in the second quarter when Moss made a lay-up.  W&J responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 37-15 on a Amirah Moore lay-up with 6:41 to play in the second quarter.  Thomas More answered with a 20-7 capped by a lay-up by junior guard Kelly McDonald (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) with 18-seconds to play in the second quarter to extend the lead to 57-22.  The Presidents' Beka Bellhy made two free-throws with three-seconds to play in the second quarter to cut the lead to 57-24 at halftime.

Thomas More out-scored W&J 27-15 in the third quarter to lead 84-39 after three and then had a 19-17 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 103-56 victory.

Thomas More had a 44-22 advantage on points in the paint, 33-6 in points off turnovers and 21-0 in fast break points.

Two Saints joined Temple in double-figure scoring as Moss finished with 22 points and Santamaria had 13 points.  Sophomore forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and blocks with three, while Moss led the team in assists with nine and steals with six.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (January 13) when it hosts Geneva College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
