Eastern Mennonite Downs Guilford, 66-51, for Seventh Straight Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eastern Mennonite University's Jess Rheinheimer led Eastern Mennonite University with with 20 points in the Royals' 66-51 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win at Guilford College Saturday. The Royals (10-2, 3-1 ODAC) won their seventh straight game and ended the Quakers' (10-2, 4-1 ODAC) seven-game winning streak.

Eastern Mennonite took an early 8-0 before the Quakers battled back to close the deficit to five in the middle of the first quarter. The Royals later widened the margin with a 10-2 run to close out the quarter. They extended the lead as large as 13 points to start the second quarter, but Guilford answered back in the latter portion of the period with an 11-4 run. The Quakers held the Royals to 26.7 percent shooting in the period to shrink the deficit to 32-28 by halftime.

Eastern Mennonite used an 8-0 run to close out the third quarter, holding the Quakers to 18.8 percent shooting in the period after both sides held even early in the quarter. The Quakers closed the gap to six points with 6:27 left in the frame, but the Royals produced a 12-2 run in a 4:24 span in the latter stages of the game to seal the win.

Anais Weatherly led the Quakers with 20 points on eight-of-20 shooting. She also pulled down six rebounds and made five steals. Amy Steller added seven points and six rebounds, plus three assists. Heaven Walters also tallied seven points and had five rebounds.

Jonae Guest led the Royals' bench with 15 points on six-of-10 shooting in 20 minutes. Myneshia Walker was the remaining Royals' player in double-figure scoring with 10 points. She also added six rebounds and four assists.

The Quakers shot 29.7 percent from the field in the contest while the Royals shot 42.2 percent. Guilford shot three-of-14 from three-point range while the Royals shot six-of-21 from beyond the arc, with four treys in the first quarter.

Eastern Mennonite out-rebounded Guilford, 46-37, with both sides nearly even on the offensive glass as the Royals held a narrow 13-12 advantage. The Royals earned the advantage in the paint, outscoring the Quakers, 35-18. The Royals held the edge in second-chance points, 11-4, and points off turnovers, 15-8.

The Quakers (10-2, 4-1 ODAC) hit the road Wednesday, traveling to Hollins University for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
